Seven schoolchildren and an grownup have been left hanging dangerously in a chairlift within the mountains of northern Pakistan on Tuesday after two of its cables broke, prompting officers to scramble a rescue effort at an altitude of greater than 6,000 ft.

The cables broke round 8:30 a.m. in Allai, within the Battagram district of Khyber-Pakhthunkwa Province. The chairlift, which spans a stream, is a daily mode of transport for residents of the mountainous area, and the kids, ages 10 to 12, have been en path to a close-by faculty.

As panic gripped the passengers and their households, they issued pressing pleas for help. The authorities have been working Tuesday afternoon to plan a rescue plan involving the military’s speedy response pressure and particular companies commandos.
