The Countries Pausing Funding to UNWRA: Full List

A number of international locations stated over the weekend that they’d droop funding for the United Nations company that gives meals, water and different important companies for Palestinian civilians within the Gaza Strip.

The bulletins got here after Israel accused a dozen workers of the United Nations Reduction and Works Company, or UNRWA, of taking part within the Oct. 7 assaults led by Hamas. The United Nations stated on Friday that it had fired the accused employees and was investigating.

Listed below are the international locations which have stated their funding of the company can be affected indirectly, ranked in line with the quantity they’ve pledged.

  • The US, UNRWA’s largest donor, stated on Friday that it could droop funding.

  • Germany introduced on Saturday night time that it too would quickly droop all new funding to the company pending the result of an investigation into the allegations.

  • Japan stated on Sunday that it was suspending support “in the intervening time.”

  • Canada welcomed the information that UNRWA would examine and stated on Friday that it had quickly paused any extra funding to the company within the meantime.

  • The Netherlands on Sunday stated “UNRWA will obtain no Dutch funding till the investigation is concluded, not even in response to new requests.”

  • Britain stated Saturday that it was “appalled” by the allegations, in an announcement saying its determination to pause future funding.

  • Australia responded to the allegations by saying it could “quickly pause disbursement of not too long ago introduced funding.”

  • Finland introduced its determination on Saturday.

The US and Germany are by far the biggest donors to UNRWA. The US pledged $344 million in 2022 and Germany pledged $202 million, in line with UNRWA figures. Every of the opposite nations listed has pledged $30 million or much less.
