A US strike in Somalia killed 5 al-Shabaab fighters on Wednesday, US Africa Command mentioned in an announcement. The strike was carried out on the request of the Somali authorities and was a “collective self-defense strike,” in accordance with AFRICOM.

The strike was carried out roughly 300 miles north of the Somali capital of Mogadishu.

No civilians have been injured or killed, AFRICOM mentioned, citing the distant location of the operation.

The newest strike marks the second time in per week that the US has focused al-Shabaab forces in Somalia. On Friday, the US carried out a strike that killed 12 al-Shabaab fighters northeast of Mogadishu.
