Hamburg Airport Closed as Driver on Tarmac Remains in Standoff With Police

The Hamburg Airport in Germany canceled all flights on Saturday night time because the authorities responded to an armed man who drove his car onto the tarmac and parked close to a aircraft.

The person fired at the very least one shot into the air, Sandra Levgrün, a spokeswoman for the Hamburg Police Division, stated in an interview posted on social media.

No accidents have been reported to this point, Ms. Levgrün stated.

The police stated they have been attempting to contact the motive force of the car, who they stated was accompanied by a toddler passenger, including that they believed the scenario involved a “custody dispute.”

A spokeswoman for the airport, Katja Bromm, stated in an e-mail that the police responded to the airport at 8:24 p.m. native time, prompting it to halt takeoffs and landings.

Twenty-seven flights have since been canceled, she added, affecting roughly 3,200 passengers.
