A Japan Airways flight carrying lots of of passengers on Tuesday caught hearth on a runway at Tokyo’s Haneda airport after colliding with a Japan Coast Guard plane.

Citing Tokyo police, Japanese nationwide broadcaster NHK stated 5 of the six crew members on the Coast Guard plane had been confirmed useless. The pilot, who evacuated, is reportedly severely injured.

The Coast Guard plane was heading to Niigata to supply reduction for the current earthquake, in accordance with preliminary studies.

All 379 passengers and crew have been evacuated from the Japan Airways Airbus A350, which was seen engulfed in flames. It had departed from the northern island of Hokkaido and landed at Tokyo Haneda.

Footage posted to social media exhibits passengers utilizing an emergency evacuation slide and operating throughout the tarmac.

A spokesperson for Japan Airways was not instantly out there to remark when contacted by CNBC.

Japanese Transport Minister Tetsuo Saito offered an replace shortly after 8:30 p.m. Tokyo time (6:30 a.m. ET) and confirmed 5 of the six crew of the Coast Guard plane had died.

Saito stated the reason for the incident was nonetheless unknown, in accordance with Reuters, and stated authorities hoped to reopen Haneda airport as quickly as attainable.
