Water Safety for 105 Communities

LWUA, established in 2002, has efficiently operated and maintained the Lebalelo Scheme, a bulk uncooked water infrastructure, for over twenty years.

Masking a distance of 110km, the Lebalelo Scheme serves 105 communities inside the Sekhukhune District Municipality. moreover, the scheme provides uncooked water to the mining sector and native communities.

To deal with the rising water demand and alleviate strain on the overallocated Flag Boshielo Dam, the Olifants River Water Sources Improvement Venture (ORWRDP) was initiated by the Division of Water and Sanitation (DWS).

The Olifants Administration Mannequin (OMM) Programme is a joint effort between LWUA.

As a part of this program, LWUA and NEC XON Techniques collaborate to boost the water provide infrastructure.

NEC XON Techniques offered and put in a 3.4MWh SolarMD containerized BESS answer, together with inverters, transformers, electrical cabling, panels, and integration.

The BESS answer allows the Clapham pump station to function off-grid for roughly 4 hours, making certain steady water provide to LWUA customers in Limpopo.

Mr. Prakashim Moodliar, Chairperson of LWUA, affirmed through the launch of the OMM Programme that it might convey water for financial development to trade and communities.

The strategic pump station connects the Steelpoort River to the Havercroft Weir, with plans for additional growth. With out a backup energy provide system, the danger of water shortage because of electrical energy shortages turns into a major concern.

Minister of Water and Sanitation, Mr. Senzo Mchunu, hailed the challenge as a milestone in South Africa’s democracy, emphasizing its transformative influence on water service supply.
