The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded on Friday to Iranian human rights activist Narges Mohammadi.

Mohammadi acquired the prize for “her battle towards the oppression of ladies in Iran and her battle to advertise human rights and freedom for all,” the awards committee stated. Mohammadi is presently in jail.

“Her courageous battle has come at large private value,” the committee spokesperson stated, including that Mohammadi has been arrested 13 instances, convicted 5 instances, and sentenced to a complete of 31 years in jail and 154 lashes.

The award will additional encourage Mohammadi to proceed her work, her husband Taghi Rahmani advised Reuters.
