BARCELONA, Spain — South Korean telecommunications big SK Telecom is planning to launch a flying taxi service in 2025 and expects it to generate “vital” income going ahead, a senior government informed CNBC.

Final 12 months, SK Telecom and U.S. agency Joby Aviation inked a tie-up to develop air taxis for the South Korean market. Joby Aviation is a maker of so-called electrical vertical take-off and touchdown automobiles. The South Korean authorities is pushing ahead with attempting to commercialize air taxis by 2025.

SK Telecom and Joby Aviation need to benefit from the federal government backing.
