Spotify exec calls Harry and Meghan ‘grifters’ after podcast deal comes to early end

The collaborative efforts between Spotify and Harry and Meghan has resulted in only one, 12-episode collection of the podcast “Archetypes.”

Spotify government Invoice Simmons described Prince Harry and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, as “grifters” after the couple’s partnership with the streaming platform got here to a seemingly untimely finish Friday.

The partnership with Harry and Meghan’s manufacturing firm Archewell Audio, first introduced in Dec. 2020, was initially described by Spotify as a “multiyear partnership,” with the promise of delivering “podcasts that can encourage.” 

Nevertheless, the collaborative efforts have resulted in only one, 12-episode collection of the podcast “Archetypes,” which noticed Meghan interview notable friends, together with Serena Williams and Mariah Carey.

The deal was extensively reported on the time to be value round $20 million. 

“Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to half methods and are pleased with the collection we made collectively,” Spotify and Archewell Audio mentioned in a joint assertion.

This is not the primary time that Invoice Simmons, Spotify’s head of podcast innovation and monetization, has made disparaging remarks concerning the former working royals, having beforehand mentioned that he was “embarrassed” to share the Spotify platform with Harry.

“Shoot this man to the solar, I am so bored with this man,” Simmons mentioned on his self-titled podcast in January.

Spotify declined to answer Simmons’ remarks when contacted by CNBC. Archewell Audio didn’t instantly reply to CNBC’s request for remark.
