Violent clashes erupt in Naples ahead of Napoli's Champions League match against Frankfurt

Violent clashes erupted within the Italian metropolis of Naples on Wednesday as ticketless German soccer followers descended on the town for a key Champions League match which that they had been banned from attending.

A spokesperson from the town’s police advised CNN that followers of German soccer membership Eintracht Frankfurt attacked police and set a automobile on fireplace forward of the staff’s Champions League spherical of 16 second leg towards Napoli.

Footage filmed by Reuters exhibits teams of males attacking riot police with flame throwers and objects within the smoke-shrouded streets of Naples.

Chatting with reporters on Wednesday, Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi condemned the violence and mentioned he had known as Germany’s Ambassador to Italy, Viktor Elbling.

An estimated 400 ticketless Frankfurt fans traveled to Naples.

Based on information outlet Soccer Italia, round 400 Frankfurt followers have traveled to Naples.

Following reviews of violence within the first leg of the tie again in Germany, Italian authorities banned Napoli from promoting tickets for Wednesday’s match on the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium to Frankfurt followers, based on an announcement from Eintracht Frankfurt revealed on its web site on Sunday.

CNN has reached out to UEFA, Napoli and Frankfurt for remark.
